    Your Colour Care Guide

    Client name: _______________

    Date of treatment: _______________

    Colour service: _______________

    Stylist: _______________

    First 48 Hours

    • Do not wash your hair for at least 48 hours after your colour. This gives the colour time to set and last longer.
    • Avoid swimming pools, the sea, hot tubs and saunas.
    • Avoid excessive heat styling (straighteners, curling tongs, hot rollers).
    • If you get caught in the rain, do not worry - a quick rinse will not cause problems.

    Washing Your Hair

    • Use a colour-safe shampoo and conditioner. Your stylist can recommend one.
    • Wash with lukewarm water, not hot. Hot water opens the hair cuticle and lets colour fade faster.
    • Wash your hair less frequently if possible - every 2 to 3 days is ideal for colour longevity.
    • When you do wash, rinse with cool water at the end to close the cuticle and lock in shine.

    Styling

    • Reduce the temperature on straighteners, curling irons and hairdryers. High heat damages colour-treated hair.
    • Always use a heat protection spray before using any heat tools.
    • Avoid chlorine. If you swim regularly, wear a swimming cap or wet your hair with clean water before getting in - hair that is already saturated absorbs less chlorine.

    Sun Exposure

    • UV light fades hair colour, especially reds and warm tones.
    • In strong sun, use a UV protection spray for hair or wear a hat.
    • Leave-in conditioners with UV filters are a good option for holidays.

    Touch-Ups

    • Permanent colour: expect to need a root touch-up every 4 to 6 weeks, depending on how fast your hair grows and how visible the contrast is.
    • Semi-permanent colour: this will fade gradually over 6 to 12 washes. It does not leave a harsh regrowth line.
    • Highlights and balayage: these can last longer between appointments - typically 8 to 12 weeks.

    How to use this template

Give a copy to every client after a colour service - either printed or sent digitally. Fill in your contact details before you start using it. Having written aftercare does two important things: it helps your client look after their colour properly, and it gives you evidence that you provided instructions if a client later says they were not told what to do. Keep blank copies ready to go so you are never caught without one.

Give to every colour client. Written aftercare reduces complaints and shows duty of care.
