Your Waxing Aftercare Guide
Client name: _______________
Date of treatment: _______________
Area(s) waxed: _______________
Therapist: _______________
First 24 to 48 Hours
- Avoid heat on the waxed area - no hot baths, saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs or sunbeds.
- Avoid tight clothing over the waxed area. Loose, breathable fabrics reduce irritation.
- Avoid deodorant or antiperspirant on freshly waxed underarms. Use a gentle, fragrance-free alternative if needed.
- Avoid swimming. Chlorine and bacteria in pool water can irritate freshly waxed skin.
- Avoid touching or scratching the waxed area. Your pores are open and more vulnerable to bacteria.
- Avoid perfumed products, body sprays or heavily fragranced lotions on the area.
- Avoid sexual activity for 24 hours after intimate waxing.
Redness and Sensitivity
- Mild redness, small bumps and slight tenderness for up to 24 hours after waxing is completely normal, especially if you are new to waxing.
- Apply a soothing, alcohol-free, aloe-based product if the skin feels irritated.
- Avoid perfumed moisturisers on the waxed area for at least 24 hours.
- If redness persists beyond 48 hours or gets worse, contact me.
Exfoliation
- Start gentle exfoliation 3 to 5 days after your wax. Use a soft washcloth, gentle body scrub or exfoliating mitt.
- Exfoliate the waxed area 2 to 3 times per week between appointments. This is the single best thing you can do to prevent ingrown hairs.
- Do not exfoliate on the day of your wax or while the skin is still red.
Ingrown Hairs
- Regular exfoliation is the best prevention.
- Do not pick, squeeze or dig at ingrown hairs. This causes scarring and infection.
- If you get a persistent or infected ingrown hair (red, swollen, painful, pus), see your GP. Do not try to treat an infected ingrown hair yourself.
- Moisturising daily also helps keep the skin soft and reduces the chance of hairs becoming trapped.
Sun Exposure
- Freshly waxed skin is more sensitive to UV for at least 48 hours.
- Avoid direct sun exposure on the waxed area, or apply SPF 30 or higher if you cannot avoid it.
- Do not use sunbeds for at least 48 hours before or after waxing.
Your Next Wax
- For best results, book your next wax in 4 to 6 weeks.
- Hair needs to be at least 1 to 2cm long for the wax to grip properly. If it is too short, the wax cannot remove it effectively.
- Do not shave between waxing appointments. Shaving cuts the hair at a blunt angle, which makes regrowth feel coarser and can increase the risk of ingrown hairs. It also disrupts the growth cycle that makes each wax easier and less painful over time.

- Severe redness that lasts more than 48 hours
- Blistering or broken skin
- A rash or allergic reaction (raised, itchy bumps covering a large area)
