    Annual Insurance Review Checklist

This is a template - always read the linked guide first. BeautyKiln gives general information, not legal advice.

Don't just auto-renew your insurance every year. Spend 30 minutes going through this checklist to make sure you're properly covered and getting a fair price.

    Current Policy Details

    • Provider: [PROVIDER NAME]
    • Policy number: [POLICY NUMBER]
    • Renewal date: [DATE]
    • Current premium: £[AMOUNT] per year
    • Payment method: Annual / Monthly

    Treatment Coverage Review

Are All Your Current Treatments Covered?

Go through your price list and check every single treatment is listed on your policy:

    • [TREATMENT 1] - Covered? Yes / No
    • [TREATMENT 2] - Covered? Yes / No
    • [TREATMENT 3] - Covered? Yes / No
    • [TREATMENT 4] - Covered? Yes / No
    • [TREATMENT 5] - Covered? Yes / No
    • [ADD MORE AS NEEDED]

Have You Added Any New Treatments Since Your Last Renewal?

This is the most common gap. If you've trained in something new and started offering it without telling your insurer, you're not covered for it.

    • New treatment 1: [TREATMENT] - Added to policy? Yes / No
    • New treatment 2: [TREATMENT] - Added to policy? Yes / No
    • New treatment 3: [TREATMENT] - Added to policy? Yes / No

Are You Planning Any New Treatments in the Coming Year?

    • [PLANNED TREATMENT 1] - will you need additional cover?
    • [PLANNED TREATMENT 2] - does it require a specific qualification to be insured?

    Business Changes

    • Has your annual revenue changed significantly? (Some policies have revenue brackets - if you've grown, check you're in the right one)
    • Have you changed location? (Moved salon, started working from home, gone mobile?)
    • Have you started working from additional locations?
    • Are you now working mobile as well as salon-based? (Mobile cover is often separate)
    • Have you taken on any staff, apprentices, or self-employed renters? (You may need employer's liability insurance)
    • Are you renting space in someone else's salon? (Check whose insurance covers what)
    • Have you started selling products? (Product liability may be separate)
    • Have you started teaching or training? (This may need separate cover)

    Policy Limits

    • Public liability limit: £[AMOUNT] - is this still adequate?
      • Minimum £1m, but £2m or £5m is standard now
    • Professional indemnity limit: £[AMOUNT]
    • Treatment risk limit: £[AMOUNT]
    • Employer's liability: £[AMOUNT] (legal minimum is £5m if you have employees)
    • Equipment cover limit: £[AMOUNT] - does this cover the replacement cost of your kit?

    Claims and Near-Misses

    • Have you made any claims this year? (This will affect your renewal premium)
    • Have you had any near-misses or complaints that didn't become claims? (Worth noting - patterns may suggest you need higher cover)
    • Are there any ongoing claims from previous years?

    Excess Review

    • What is your excess (the amount you pay before insurance kicks in)? £[AMOUNT]
    • Could you afford a higher excess in exchange for a lower premium?
    • Is the excess reasonable for your business size?

    Price Comparison

Don't just renew - compare at least 3 quotes:

    Switching Provider

    If you decide to switch:

    • Check if your current policy has run-off cover (covers claims made after the policy ends for incidents that happened during the policy period)
    • Make sure the new policy starts the day after the old one ends - no gaps
    • Transfer any ongoing claim information to the new provider
    • Update your certificate on display in the salon
    • Save proof of the new policy
