    Timeline

Work backwards from the ceremony time. The last person in the chair should be finished with enough time to get dressed, have photos taken, and travel to the ceremony.

    How to Build Your Timeline

    1. Start with the ceremony time and work backwards.
    2. Add travel time from the getting-ready location to the ceremony venue.
    3. Add 30 minutes for pre-ceremony photos (confirm with the photographer).
    4. Add 30-45 minutes for getting dressed.
    5. Add a 30-minute buffer for overruns - things always take longer than planned on the morning.
    6. Stack the hair and makeup appointments, allowing the durations above (or your own typical durations).
    7. The earliest time in your timeline is when the stylist needs to arrive.

    Buffer Time

Build in 15-20% extra time across the whole morning. If your total service time is 4 hours, add 45-60 minutes of buffer spread throughout the schedule.

Common things that eat into your timeline:

    • The bride wanting a last-minute change
    • A bridesmaid running late
    • Hair not cooperating (especially in humid weather)
    • Tears (happy or otherwise) smudging makeup
    • People wanting to take phone photos mid-appointment
    • Someone forgetting to eat and needing a break

    Getting Dressed

Allow 30-45 minutes for the bride to get into her dress. This includes:

    • Underwear and any shapewear
    • The dress itself (button-back dresses take longer than zip-back)
    • Shoes
    • Jewellery and accessories
    • Veil or headpiece
    • Final touch-ups to hair and makeup after dressing

The bridal party should be dressed before the bride so they can help.

    Emergency Kit Checklist

Bring these with you on the day. They will save someone's morning at least once a season.

    • Extra bobby pins and hair pins
    • Extra hair ties (clear and matching)
    • Spare false lashes and lash glue
    • Blotting papers
    • Setting spray (extra bottle)
    • Makeup wipes
    • Cotton buds
    • Tissues
    • Sewing kit (needle, thread in white/black/ivory, safety pins)
    • Plasters (clear and fabric)
    • Painkillers (paracetamol, ibuprofen)
    • Antihistamines
    • Deodorant (travel size)
    • Stain remover pen
    • Clear nail polish (for laddered tights)
    • Phone charger (portable battery pack)
    • Mints or breath freshener
    • Small mirror

    How to use this template

    • Fill in the ceremony time first, then work backwards to calculate each appointment slot.
    • Always build in at least 15-20% buffer time. A morning with no buffer will run late. Every single time.
    • Confirm the final timeline with the bride at least 2 weeks before the wedding. Send it in writing (email or message) so everyone has a copy.
    • Share the timeline with the photographer so they know when to arrive for getting-ready shots.
    • If you are working with a second stylist, colour-code or split the timeline so each person knows exactly who they are doing and when.
    • Print a copy and bring it on the day. Do not rely on your phone - your hands will be busy.
    • If someone is not ready when their slot comes up, move to the next person and come back to them. Do not let one person throw off the whole morning.
Work backwards from ceremony time. Allow 15-20 percent buffer. Confirm with the bride 2 weeks before.
