    Fire Extinguisher Types

    UK fire extinguisher colours, types, and which fires they cover.

    🔴

    Water

    Red band

    ✓ Use for: Class A — paper, wood, textiles

    ✗ Not for: Electrical, flammable liquids, cooking oil

    Most common. Safe for general solid material fires.

    🟡

    Foam (AFFF)

    Cream/Yellow band

    ✓ Use for: Class A + B — solids and flammable liquids

    ✗ Not for: Electrical (some are safe), cooking oil

    Good all-rounder for salons using flammable products.

    CO₂

    Black band

    ✓ Use for: Class B + Electrical — flammable liquids and electrical equipment

    ✗ Not for: Class A (paper/wood), cooking oil

    Ideal near electrical equipment. Leaves no residue.

    🔵

    Dry Powder

    Blue band

    ✓ Use for: Class A + B + C + Electrical — multi-purpose

    ✗ Not for: Cooking oil. Creates visibility issues in enclosed spaces.

    Versatile but messy. Not ideal for small salon spaces.

    🟡

    Wet Chemical

    Yellow band

    ✓ Use for: Class F — cooking oils and deep fat fryers

    ✗ Not for: Electrical, flammable gases

    Specialist — mainly for kitchens. Some salons with waxing stations may need one.
